    Measurement

    Everyone publishesresults. Nobodypublishes theinstrument.

Grade improvements, satisfaction scores, placement rates — every practice in this category has them, and not one of them can be checked by the family reading them. So they cancel out, and the category ends up arguing on adjectives. Here is the instrument instead: what is measured, when, and against what.

What we removedThis page used to carry averaged grade jumps and four student stories with the names changed. They were not real, so they are gone. We would rather show you an empty chart than a convincing one.

    The instrument

    Three stages, in order.

    01

    The diagnostic baseline

Every engagement opens with a diagnostic across the topics that actually matter for the syllabus the student is sitting — not a general assessment. It establishes where they are before anyone teaches anything.

Without it, every later claim of progress is unfalsifiable. This is the step most tutoring skips, and it is the reason most tutoring cannot tell you what it achieved.

    02

    Tracking against that baseline

Session notes, assignment scores and mock results are recorded against the diagnostic as the engagement runs, topic by topic rather than as an overall grade.

An overall grade moves too slowly to act on. Topic-level tracking makes a subject drifting off course visible in weeks rather than at the exam.

    03

The outcome, compared to the start

Final grades are read against that student’s own diagnostic. Not against a cohort average, and not against the school’s prediction.

The measure of the work is the distance this student travelled. A practice that reports averages is reporting on its intake as much as its teaching.

    The record

This is where the figures will go.

It is empty because the practice does not yet have outcomes it can show you the working for. When it does, they will appear here with their method attached — the sample, the period, and what was compared against what — so you can decide for yourself whether they mean anything.

Until then, judge us on the question on the homepage and on the conversation. Both are things you can check today.

    Start with the diagnostic.

It is the first thing that happens in an engagement and the first thing that happens in a conversation. Thirty minutes, with someone who would actually run the work.

No obligationThe diagnostic conversation is not a sales call with a test attached. If it shows the student does not need us, that is a useful result and we will say so.
